Grav’Or discovering La Galerie Dior
Some time after the opening of La Galerie Dior, Grav’Or entered this world where time is no longer counted and where each room plunges us into a new universe. For you, Grav’Or went to discover the temple of fashion created as a tribute to the couturier Christian Dior. La Galerie Dior has become the most beautiful permanent fashion exhibition in Paris.
La Galerie Dior staircase
When you begin your adventure in La Galerie Dior, the first thing that catches your eye is the spectacular staircase that leads to the first exhibition room. Visitors are faced with a magnificent white staircase, with its illuminated steps and glass railing.
On reaching the first steps, we find ourselves surrounded by more than 1500 miniature objects, recreated from the Couturier’s creations. These objects have been designed using a 3D printer and are positioned to create a unique cameo of colours.
Then, as you climb the stairs, Grav’Or began the discovery of La Galerie, which is entirely immersed in this rainbow of accessories and iconic pieces recreated in miniature format. Everything has been designed to dazzle visitors from the moment they enter this magical place of luxury aspirations.
13 immersive rooms
La Galerie Dior plunges fashion enthusiasts into a timeless world, where the Couturier’s creations are combined in a unique and revolutionary setting. Through 13 exhibition rooms, 13 new chapters open and close with each passage through a room. Thus, the spectators go through the great book of the Dior myth, rich in inspirations, femininity, love and encounters.
The staging of La Galerie was created by Nathalie Crinière, who had previously created the set design for the exhibition “Christian Dior, couturier du rêve”, in 2017, at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, in Paris.
Each piece takes us into a new universe, each more sumptuous than the last. Between the bespoke suits, the spectacular gala dresses, the fashion magazines and the fabulous story of the couturier, the exhibition never ceases to amaze us.
Numerous pieces have been taken from the House’s archives to be exhibited at La Galerie. The general public can then go and meet the universe of those who succeeded Christian Dior. From Yves Saint Laurent to Marc Bohan, via Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri, the fashion house has been able to evolve while maintaining the identity of its creator.
The meticulousness of the dressmakers
Grav’Or particularly loved the workshop, a room entirely dressed in white where the most beautiful creations made in this colour were displayed in large glass cases.
As a tribute to the old workshops, we were able to admire for a moment the work of two seamstresses who are passionate about their job and proud to explain their know-how. Highlighting the meticulous work they perform to the last button is a fine recognition of the success of the House. Without them, none of this success would have been possible.
So, with patience and clarity, these two women carefully explained the details of the dress they were making. Hour after hour, thread by thread, the dress could finally be worn by the customer who had ordered it.
This large white room suddenly warmed up to the curiosity of the visitors. We were also able to admire dresses and jackets that were entirely white, but none of them looked the same.
The meticulousness of these women and the inspiration of Christian Dior made it possible to create a collection of white pieces, inspiring purity and the will to sublimate women.
Perfumes by Christian Dior
Christian Dior was passionate about couture, but his real love was for women. He said that “a woman’s perfume says more about her than her writing”. So he drew inspiration from the women around him and the world to create fragrances that were both gentle and powerful, worn on women’s skin around the world. But these are not only fragrances that blend with the scents of life, these bewitching scents are actually an invitation to feel beautiful and feminine in all stages of life.
The last room of La Galerie’s exhibition is entirely devoted to the famous J’adore perfume. This ode to the beauty and audacity of women makes the perfume an integral part of the Dior universe. We can thus contemplate the sketches of the perfume bottles that led to its final form. On the walls is the 2018 advert for the perfume J’adore, in which the Dior muse, the sublime Charlize Theron, is wrapped in a steamy golden dress. Like the model revealing herself out of the water, the fragrance emanates from her beauty and femininity.
Christian Dior thus marked a whole generation by his commitment to the place of women and his desire to reveal all their aromas. Dior perfumes have become essential signature pieces worn by women in daily life.
